Getaway on Snow Holidays

April 8th, 2009 Posted in Snow

Snow HolidaysWinter is almost upon us and the sleeping Australian snow season is about to begin. For some families, snow holidays are an annual thing, where they stay in the same resorts on the same slopes as the parents did when they were kids. This season will also see many new faces on the slopes as families, friends and couples experience skiing in an alpine wonderland for the first time.

All the ski resorts are found along the Great Dividing Range, in Southern New South Wales and Northern Victoria. Possibly the most well known ski regions are Perisher Blue and Thredbo and pack the visitors in every year. Perisher Blue is the largest ski resort in Australia and is ready made for families with a laid back atmosphere and plenty to do. Thredbo has the longest runs in the country and is well known for its luxury accommodation and party atmosphere – and great for families too.

Victoria has its always-popular Mount Buller, which is just a little over 200 km from Melbourne making it ideal for day-trippers. Mount Buller really does pull a crowd and the speed of the lifts can move an astonishing 40,000 skiers every hour.

So many of these alpine resort areas sell out the year before the season so you might have better luck organising a snow holiday for next year. Start planning your holiday getaway today.
