Thailand stretches down through the centre of south East Asia. With rivers and mountains in the north, and hot humid coastal beach in the south, Thailand has a bulging population and some of Asia’s top holiday destinations. Bangkok is located in the north of the country and south from here, along past the narrow Kra Isthmus, is the Malay Peninsula. It is on the western side of the Malay Peninsula that the tourism hotspot of Phuket is found. The country’s biggest island is actually one big island and nearly forty other small islands, all jam packed with things to see and do.
Phuket holidays are all about relaxing on the beach, touring the local religious and historic buildings, visiting the local markets full of fresh produce and holiday resorts catering to every desire. The eastern side of Phuket is one beautiful beach after another and includes the busy Patong Beach and the secluded Bang Tao Bay.
Patong is the most well known location in Phuket, it has the busiest nightlife and loads of markets all around a spectacular beach. Just south of Patong is Karon Beach, which also has a plenty of action, but is one of the longest stretches of beach on the island and is therefore less crowded. To the north Bang Tao Bay and Surin Beach move at a more relaxed pace and still provide a range of Phuket accommodation to suit all tastes and lifestyles.
